SPAV (School of Planning and Architecture, Vijivada)

The School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada (SPAV) sees a need for the disciplines of Planning and Architecture to be more inclusive and sustainable in a scenario of rapidly globalizing economy, growing inequality and deteriorating environment. For its students are sensitized and exposed to wide range of issues spanning different disciplines. Accordingly SPAV strives to create a sound academic environment by:

  • Engaging multi-disciplinary faculty members who train the students to think and act critically.
  • By international collaboration with other universities.
  • Foster a research and writing environment by forming reading & writing groups and through a wide range of publications

SPAV was established on July 7, 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, as an autonomous national institution. The first batch of students was admitted in the academic year 2008 – 09. Currently, the school offers two under graduate programs – Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Planning. There are plans to offer other Under-graduate, Post-graduate and Doctoral programs in architectural and planning specialisations.

The SPAV is constantly engaged in fostering research of a higher order through creating a cadre of high-calibre faculty members. The SPAV also envisions in being a socially responsible institution providing research, consultancy and feedback to the government for physical development of human settlements that would positively impact upon the economic growth of the country.

The SPAV has two departments, namely the Department of Architecture and the Department of Planning. Each started one undergraduate programme for the academic year 2008 – 09.
