Survey of Architectural Curricula in India

The Architectural education in India is regulated by Council of Architecture(CoA), which was set up by a parliamentary Act in 1971. CoA inspects every institution and sees to it that the model Architecture education guidelines and the subjects are followed. This restricts to a great extent regional variations in architecture, material/technology used and also the type of housing (formal and informal housing). To identify the variations, and the regional need requirements, SPAV will conduct a survey (through a questionnaire) among institutions from each region (North, South, East and West) and analyse the same to arrive at what should be the basket of subjects for architecture education. This will enable the sequencing of subjects, and also contents of the subjects in terms of future development.

The survey results will contribute to the selection of courses for extensive course descriptions and further development, but also to determine the room to manoeuvre for innovation.
