Thematic Workshops

During thematic workshops mostly held in India, European Partners contribute professional trainings on specific topics of their expertise for Indian Partners’ academic staff:

  • Social Inclusion (DUK-MIG)
    (including migration studies)
  • Sustainable Housing (DUK-DBE)
(including sustainable building and energy efficiency)
  • Participatory mapping (UTWENTE-ITC)
(including social indicators, community quality of life monitoring; GIS; slum mapping, upgrading and governance)
  • Environmental Risk Assessment (ULUND)
(including climate change and risk adaptation)

The applicability of this know how in the specific framework conditions of the target regions will be jointly assessed by all partners during Thematic Workshops.

This will makes sure that the case studies and course descriptions to be developed in this project benefit best from European Partners’ specific know how regarding informal settlements and poor urban communities

Associated NGOs will likewise be included in this process :

  • SPARC (Sheela Patel)
  • Shelter Associates, Pune (Pratima Joshi)

Based on European partners’ input, intensive discussions among all partners will enhance all partners’ mutual understanding of specific local conditions and needs in the target regions. These will support shaping concepts for course development in each Indian partner institution. Joint discussion of these concepts will help identify synergies of partners and possible cooperation in course development and case study design in WP 2.
