This course focuses on conceptualizing and understanding informal settlements in the context of a third-world country i.e. Ethiopia. It consists of sections on defining informality; measuring informality; identifying its typologies; revising policy frameworks and interventions. It specifically aims to familiarize students with how urban areas adjust to changing landscape and meet the basic needs of the growing numbers of informal settlers to a decent living.
