Group Discussion. Defining ‘Home’
At the beginning of this chapter, you were asked to consider what home means to you. In this assignment, we would like you to create a short PowerPoint presentation (1-3 slides) that can demonstrate to your class what you consider to be part of your home. Consider the different aspects of your home beyond the physical, and why those aspects are important in your definitions.
After presenting your personal understanding of ‘home’ to the class discuss how different people’s definitions of their homes were similar or different.
Then, in small groups try to come up with a short (1-2 sentence) definition of ‘home’ based on your thoughts and discussions. How do these definitions differ? Some ideas could include a home you grew up in, people or pets that you associate with home, photo albums, family heirlooms, plants or trees, or anything else you may consider your home.
