Analysis. Housing-Related Issues in Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX)

The Migrant integration policy index (MIPEX) has existed for more than a decade. You can find it at here. Over the years it has expanded to include new domains. This is how indexes usually evolve. In its newest edition it covers eight policy areas: 1) Labour Market Mobility; 2) Family Reunion; 3) Education;  4) Political Participation; 5) Long-term Residence; 6) Access to Nationality; 7) Anti-discrimination and 8) Health. Housing is not a separate domain but cuts across the whole of MIPEX. The indexes enable policy monitoring and serve as a drive for policy improvements, including by transferring good practice across participating countries.

1) Go through the statistical data and reports available from MIPEX and find some indicators related to housing. You will notice that some indicators are specifically for migrants and refugee and asylum seekers

2) Take notes on the following questions:

  • Do you think that indicators related to housing cover sufficiently housing issues faced by migrants?
  • Do you think that the housing situation of migrants in the EU is improving over time?
  • Reflect on how they relate to the indicators you designed in your own index on migrant housing.

Additionally, you can check this task on other migration indices.
